Bo Kovitz is a video journalist and documentary filmmaker whose stories focus on lives outside the mainstream. She seeks out intimate spaces while also grounding her character-driven reports with research, data and historical context. Most recently, Bo has worked on documentary and long form projects about people in and out of the criminal justice system. She is currently an advisor for incarcerated writers at the San Quentin News at San Quentin State Prison. Her reporting also explores themes in environmental justice, public health and education.
Bo began her career as a city news editor at the award-winning independent student newspaper The Daily Californian. She has worked as an associate producer and researcher on documentary films that have been featured in Sundance Lab, POV, GoodPitch and PBS Frontline. She is based in Berkeley, where she is earning her Master's Degree in documentary film at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism.
